ex-HMAS Brisbane

The ex-HMAS Brisbane is a former warship that has been sunk off the coast of Mooloolaba in South East Queensland.  Mooloolaba is located about 1.5 hour drive north of Brisbane, or approximately 2 hours from the Gold Coast. The wreck is then a further 10km by boat from the mouth of the Mooloolah River.

To dive the ex-HMAS Brisbane you must book a dive tour with a licensed operator, or obtain a permit through the local Maroochy Tourism.  You obviously must be a certified diver.  Fees are $20.00 per person per two-hour timeslot.

Access

  • An off shore boat with a licensed operator is required as the site is in open water and is protected by the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Authority.

  • The diving is great throughout all seasons of the year.

Water Temperature

Water temperature varies between a maximum of 27°C in summer months and a minimum of 19°C in Winter.  This a very comfortable range for diving.

Visibility

Visibility ranges from 10 to 25 meters, and is typically higher in winter and lower in summer.

Level of Difficulty

A range of dives is available for all skills levels, from open water level to advanced wreck divers.

Marine Life

There is a vast range of marine life than can be found in and around the wreck.  For a full list please click here.
